The Haas Center’s community programs in the area of youth and education—at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels—integrate student learning, leadership opportunities and reflection with assessment and evaluation of outcomes for the community. The center’s developing partnership with the Stanford School of Education has allowed us to strengthen these programs by involving faculty and graduate students as consultants and supervisors, and to ensure that our program designs are grounded in current scholarship. The newest program for youth is Science in Service, a collaboration with the Stanford Solar Observatory Group for students interested in science education.

The Community Service Work-Study Program provides an opportunity for students to develop and participate in a significant service experience while earning a portion of their financial aid award. Students work with a wide variety of organizations and agencies, both in the local community (academic year and summer) and across the nation (summer only).

In addition, the Haas Center is dedicated to facilitating and supporting service-learning efforts initiated by student organizations, academic departments and other university offices in partnership with community organizations.
